"San Cristobal con el Niño"

Escultura de madera talladay policromada realiazada a la manera del escultor bávaro Leinberger.

Es una escultura que iría exenta pues tiene multiplicidad de puntos de vista y posee gran expresividad y movimiento.

Según la leyenda, San Cristobal se pasó su vida acarreando a los pobres y débiles para cruzar un río. Un día mientras llevaba a un niño, experimentó un aumento de peso y el Niño le comunicó que era Cristo y que llevaba el peso del mundo sobre sus hombros. Este momento es el que está representado en la escultura que dobla sus rodillas por el peso y gira exageradamente la cabeza para ver que es aquello que le pesa tanto. La idea del rio se representa mediante una pequeña onda de agua que cruza su pie por encima. Ese mismo recurso se aprecia en una escultura con la misma temática, alemana de h. 1520 que se encuentra en el Metropolitan Museum de Nueva York.

Otra escultura del mismo tema, atribuida al círculo de Leinberger que ha perdido la policromía tiene elementos similares como el pie derecho más elevado apoyado el el cayado que sostiene con la mano derecha, el recuerso de la pequeña onda de agua que cruza su pie y el Niño Jesús señalando al cielo, aunque la torsión de la cabeza y la flexión de rodillas no es tan exagerada como en la nuestra.
