ANONYMOUS NOVOHISPANO 18th century
Joseph and Potiphar's wife
Oil on canvas
Size 94.5 x 165.5 cm
This monumental work that represents the biblical scene of the chaste José fleeing from Potifar's wife can be related to a follower of the great New Spain painter Cristóbal de Villalpando. The scene takes place in a luxuriously decorated palatial interior in which the silks and printed fabrics imported from the East stand out, or a large ceramic jar from Tonalá located in the lower right corner. Particularly striking is the rich men's attire, reserved for the wealthiest classes, consisting of a shirt, jacket and breeches.
A scene of great liveliness and dynamism with an anecdotal counterpoint with the graceful little dog located in the center of the composition.€20,000.00 -
